(Above) An extract from the draft book. As with all my books, it uses plenty of images. Unlike nearly all books on the topic of energy efficient home design, this author has actually built the house they are describing!

I am writing a book on passive solar design in southern Australia. (I am a widely published author on technical topics. This will be my 35th book.)

The book will have three major sections:

Part 1: Passive Solar Design, which gives you background in how passive solar design works and what aspects are important to keep in mind when planning a house.

Part 2: Our House – the Design & Build is a step-by-step example of an achievable and affordable passive solar home that we built north of Canberra.

Part 3: Our House – The Results details how we have found the house after the first year. A lot of electronic data log records are used in this section, not just subjective feel.

This book will cover all the fundamentals of passive solar home design, and use as a detailed example our home. It will will clearly show that a highly energy-efficient, comfortable and healthy home need not cost any more than a normal Australian house.

While pitched at Australian readers, the book also contains significant and detailed content on the design and operation of a passive solar home that has relevance in all countries will warm-hot summers / cool winters.

The book will be about 100,000 words / 250 pages and will be available only in print form. (E-books get pirated within days.)

Look for publication on Amazon in mid-2026.
